What I'm Reading This Month

I recently read Bear v. Shark: The Novel by Chris Bachelder. This guy is fast becoming my favorite new author. The premise of his debut novel is simple enough: Given a relatively level playing field - i.e., water deep enough so that a Shark could maneuver proficiently, but shallow enough so that a Bear could stand and operate with its characteristic dexterity - who would win a fight between a Bear and a Shark? From this idea Bachelder weaves an intricate tale that skewers modern day marketing, entertainment, and politics. I guess what I really like is that not only does Chris Bachelder have something to say, he makes me laugh while he says it (sometimes uncomfortably when the joke hits too close to home). I highly recommend this book.
