What I'm Reading This Month

I was wandering through Hastings in the mood for something scary to read when I came across Come Closer by Sara Gran. This novel had three pages of reviews at the front, all hyping how terrifying it was. Right on the cover was a quote from Time Out declaring that I was holding “PROBABLY THIS YEAR’S SCARIEST NOVEL” and another quote from George Pelecanos calling it “A new kind of psychological thriller.” Well, I tried, I really did, but this was just not scary to me and certainly not worth all the hype. I’m not saying this isn’t a well written book. I actually did like her writing style and will probably try one of her other novels. Only it’ll be when I’m in a different mood and not looking for something scary.
